Famous First Words

This post is simply intended to give you a five-minute break in your day, provide an opportunity to reflect on a few words from Scripture, and give you a chance to test your Bible acumen—connecting first lines of books of the Bible with the proper book.

It’s been said that when writing a book or any literary work, the first line is often the hardest. After crafting those first words, things more easily fall into place. You wonder if that’s true when your book is inspired by God. Every biblical writer had a moment when they were compelled to start writing. With inspiration coming from God, it’s unlikely there was much writer’s block for those first words.

While this “pop quiz” is simply for fun—connecting first lines of books of the Bible with the proper book—let yourself linger for a moment over each set of first words. Consider how each set of words opens its own floodgate to limitless hope and life.

Take the “quiz”!
